While many eat turkey leftovers for days on end after Thanksgiving, by Saturday I had a hankering for one of my favorite meals. All together now, Fro Fro Blog faithful: Burger, fries and a shake!
I'd heard good things about Stand, so I enlisted Cousin Dana to see if it could live up to my standards.
The decor is bright and spare -- and I especially loved the plastic Eames-y chairs.
We both ordered the Cheeseburger, and since we couldn't decide between regular and shoestring fries, we got a small order of each. All the better to compare, my dear. We washed everything down with milkshakes made with il Laboratorio del Gelato ice creams: Dana's was Toasted Marshmallow, and I did the Vanilla with Kahlua.
The beef was cooked very much to my liking, though the medium rare we both requested came out more rare on mine and more medium on Dana's. The quality and texture of the meat were very good, but the seasoning could have been better. The onion marmalade was a nice add, as was the extra cheese sauce on the side for fry-dipping. As for the fries themselves, the regular beat out the shoestring.
The shakes were deeeelish. My Kahlua-spiked Vanilla made me feel like Sergeant Sarah Brown in "Guys and Dolls." Too bad my Sky Masterson's back in San Francisco. Dana's Toasted Marshmallow reminded me of summer camp. I love it when the marshmallows get burned on the outside!
Check, please:
Quite a bit pricier than Mickey D's, but still a very happy meal.
