After a scoreless first 42 minutes, Manginius and Gang Green managed to win a nail-biter in the pouring rain against our AFC East rivals. Although Coach Mangini doesn't want us to utter the P word, we now control our destiny in that department. We're in with a win against the Raiders on Sunday. God forbid that doesn't happen, we can still make it with one of the following scenarios:
1. Bengals lose & Jaguars lose
2. Bengals lose & Titans win
3. Broncos lose & Jaguars lose
Aside from the points on the board, here are some other notable items from the Monday Night Football telecast:
-- Seemed like there were more Jets fans in the stands in Miami than Dolphins fans
-- Clash of the Tie-tans: Especially that pink one on Theismann. Who dresses these guys? ...and although they picked on Chad mercilessly the entire game, we still managed to snag the W.
-- The Mangini profile segment. I learned that at 35 he's not only the youngest coach in the 4 major American sports (wasn't even born yet when Monday Night Football started airing in 1970), but that he went from a part-time coach in Australia to ball boy for the Browns at age 23, to PR guy to the lowliest tape reviewer thanks to Bill Belichick. All the while he's working 18 hours a day. It paid off and the rest, as they say, is history.
-- Laveranues Coles went down after a huge hit from Zach Thomas in the second quarter but thankfully made it back later in the game. Without him, we're screwed.
-- The Jimmy Kimmel halftime segment. Jimmy reaches into Santa's sack and gives very apropos gifts to several NFL players. Hopefully this will find its way to YouTube soon.
-- The Volkswagen Jetta "Safe Happens" commercials. Those ads are among the best spots of the year. I sure wish they'd bought more time than Lexus.
Everyone keep their fingers crossed for a victory on Sunday. J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!
